across the street form the art supply store is st. vinnies. now like all modern women i enjoy thrifting now and again. but truth be told, i really hadn't much luck at thrift stores in the area. they are heavily picked over or way to pricey! i mean st. vinnies was selling 1980's particle board dressers for $30 + which is ridiculous in my book. but! saturday was my lucky day. i found 3 beautiful glass bottles, that look to be vintage, for under $10 for all 3. i quickly snagged them up before some other shopper could.
my last set of finds happened in the book section. i am into books on many levels. 1, i am an avid reader and am always looking for interesting books for cheap or free. saturday i found 4 readable books ofr $.75 a piece, score! the other way i am into books is artistically. i like to use the text of old books for found poetry and i like to alter the books themselves. i found 2 vintage hardback childrens books in stellar condition that i can use for both. i can remove some of the pages to have room for altering and i can use those pages for found poetry, another score!
all in all, i spent less than $20 and got some great finds. what did you score this weekend?

This weekend was thrifting around the house for me. Luckily I tuck away things to be found again.
There used to be a great Vinnie's thrift where all the books were a quarter. I took it for granted. A few months ago the price jumped to $2 for hardback and $1 for soft. A dark, dark day.
Still try to find books for under a buck at yard sales.

Oh I had luck this weekend too!! I was going to a local fabric shop because they had a big Holiday sale and on the way I noticed a Tag sale - everything $1!! I quickly pulled in and got 1 really cool canning jar ( I used it as a Vase and gave it to my mom with Flowers in it for her anniversary ) and a whole box of sewing supplies ( threads, bias, zippers, lace, etc.) All for $3!!! I love summer for the thrifty finds!
Aww Kati, too bad glass is so *iffy* to ship, I have cool old glass bottles that I'd part with. Would be sad to receive a box of shards! Maybe someday when I get back to art making, there should be some sort of "art bottle" swap?? It should be something you'd want to find at sea..."A message in a bottle", maybe?!

The free marker holder is fantastic! As for thrifting around here....it's pathetic. Mostly just junk, and I do mean JUNK! Nothing good, and many things that are way to pricey for what they are. I love a good thrift store but we don't have any here.
